We are currently accepting applications for responsible, mentally and physically capable, team oriented people who will train and serve as a volunteer firefighters.   Illinois Valley Fire District relies on volunteers working side-by-side with career personnel to provide high quality emergency medical care, fire suppression and to the residents and visitors of the communities we serve.  

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER

Volunteers are an integral part of the fire service all over the world. Even today, many departments are manned solely with volunteers; everyday citizens who have made the decision to make a difference in their communities by performing life and property saving duties.  

Illinois Valley Fire District is a combination department, meaning that we are comprised of both career and volunteer staff who respond to fire and medical emergencies.  

All volunteers receive a high level of training in not only fire fighting, but also in emergency medical care, driver awareness/apparatus operations, hazardous materials, procedures, radio communications, and basic report writing.  

Drills are a vital part of your initial training and continuing skill maintenance. Our drills are usually two hours, once a week, on Tuesday evenings.  

"What does it take to become a Volunteer Firefighter?" 

•18 years of age or older 

•Eligiblity to work in the United States 

•National, state, and local criminal background check 

•Valid Oregon Drivers License/driving record review  

"What will be required of me?" 

•Drug screening 

•Medical physical  

•Physical agility testing 

•Weekly training attendance 

•Response to alarms 

•Professional appearance  

"When will Illinois Valley Fire District be accepting applications?"  

•We start our volunteer recruitment in the Fall.  You can stop by to pick up an application in October through December.
